John Black b 1681 and Margaret Gordon b 1692

John Black was born on 21 Jul 1681 in Belfast, Ulster Province, Northern Ireland, son of John Black b 1647 and Jane Eccles.  He was christened on 9 Sep 1681 in Old Machar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, He died on 19 Oct 1767 in Belfast, Ulster Province, Northern Ireland. He was buried on 21 Oct 1767 in Old Churchyard Cemetery, Belfast, Northern Ireland. John married Margaret Gordon on 6 Aug 1716 in Halls Head, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Margaret Gordon was born on 1 Jan 1692 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was christened on 2 Jan 1682 in Rothiemay, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Devonshire, England. She died on 8 Jan 1747 in Bordeaux, Gironde, France. She was buried on 10 Jan 1747 in Bordeaux, Gironde, France.

John’s father traveled to Bordeaux, France, to choose wines in 1679-80. His wife was the daughter of a  prominent Bordeaux merchant and he became a prominent wine merchant in his own right. John and Margaret had son they named Joseph. Joseph became a world renowned chemist and taught at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He is known as the “Father of Chemistry.”
